The US and Religion...

THE USA AND FUNDAMENTALISM


This Country was NOT founded on Christian principles. Ben Franklin, although the Christians have tried to hijack him and make him one of them, disliked Christianity. You see, he was old enough to remember Cotton Mather. In fact, he argued with him publicly and that was one of the main reasons he relocated to Philadelphia. Cotton Mather, BTW, was the force behind the Salem Witch Trials. That was the view of Christianity that Franklin and most (if not all) of the rest of the Founding Fathers had. They were 'Deists' at best. Remember they were living and working in a town and Colony founded by Wm. Pitt. Remember he was the one who was granted land to found a Colony that wasn't under the Church's thumb?
They all saw the same sort of Fundamentalism that you people espouse today, as an unholy trap. It had created and sustained the Dark Ages, the Inquisition, the rejection and murder of the Huguenots and lately, (to them), the Witch Hunts throughout England, Europe and America.
They wanted a Gov't that was free of the sort of Fundamentalist, Christian only, Festering Pustule of misguided 'Faith' that has reared its ugly, prejudiced head again in the US of late.
"In God We Trust" was NOT their motto and should NEVER have been adopted. The phrase, "Under God," should NEVER have been added to our pledge. They espoused freedom FROM religion as much as freedom OF religion. They correctly thought that Church should NEVER be allowed to have a part in State. Look at the Church of England's response to Wm. Pitt, Senior. How it handled the 'Quakers.' Look at what it did to the Huguenot leaders, whom they had rescued from France, when it realized that they weren't going to espouse the Church of England as a National Religion any more than they had Catholicism, in France. England, for a Century before the Colonies were founded and for almost 2 full Centuries after, was rife with Civil Wars, persecutions, first of Catholics, then of Protestants, back to Catholics and finally persecution or even execution for anyone who wasn't a card-carrying member of the Church/State. And it was NO BETTER in the Colonies at the time. These were the 'Christian' principles that our Founding Fathers were faced with.
These are the 'Christian' principles you Fundamentalists and your sort, would have us bound to, today.
Now, all of that is NOT to say that you and your Faith have no place, no Right, in this Country. You do! I, along with millions of other people, swore an Oath to defend that Right, among others. But so do all other Peoples have the same Rights. The Church, any church, has NO RIGHT or RESPONSIBILITY to control Marriage, it is a CIVIL Institution (contract), anymore than they have a RIGHT to tell women that they may NOT get an abortion. People in this Country have, and rightly should ALWAYS HAVE, the Freedom to choose, to do with their relationships and their own bodies as THEY SEE FIT, without Witch Hunts, without interference from anyone else, and especially any Church, Religion or Faith!

Grow up, Fundamentalists, and go learn something!
Does God Exist?

Let's for the moment consider that God is entirely and completely real and all of the story is true and inspired.
Now. God is omniscient and omnipotent. That means 'All-knowing' and able to do anything. His only constraint is that He must work out of a spirit of love, since that is His driving urge. Now all of that is clearly stated in the bible. Right?
Think back now to before Earth's Creation. To the time when He created the Angels. One of the very top Angels He created was Lucifer. Lucifer was one of God's favorites. The bible tells us as much. But consider this, God knew from before the beginning that when He created Lucifer that the Angel was flawed and would fail. So God went along with the Plan before the Plan ever came along. Before the Earth, Man or even the Angels were created, God was already following the Plan. His Plan. Now I want you to think about this and answer this one question to yourself. Be honest. Is God capable of creating less than perfection? Is it within God's Nature to be less than perfect? No to both questions. Of course not! God is perfect, perfect Love and as such, would not be able to bring Himself to create a flawed Being. Since God didn't create Lucifer with this flaw, and all of His creations are perfect, before Sin was introduced by Satan, then by definition, Lucifer was perfect in every regard. Except that we all know that he wasn't. Lucifer was flawed. If he was flawed, and sin was not yet present in the Universe, then he had to have been created with that particular flaw.
So, we all know God's Plan of Salvation and we all agree that sin is of paramount importance to that plan. Right so far?
Well then, God intentionally created Lucifer as a flawed Being. Sin didn't come from Lucifer, he was created to fail, to fall, to corrupt this Earth with his Cosmic Illness. Sin. Which God Himself implanted into his very Being, his Soul - if Angels have souls. And he was created to be the scape-goat. Satan takes all the blame and gets all the punishment in the end, and God gets accolades for His Plan of Salvation.
God's plan, all along was to introduce sin into this Earth, to destroy all of Mankind, Generation by Generation, person by person for the whole term of this Earth's existence until the Second Coming and the Cleansing.
God introduced sin, God intended to destroy everyone except one chosen family by drowning. God intended to cause 6,000 years’ worth of suffering, tension, strife, war, famine, ignorance, bigotry, slavery, genocide, just plain evil cruelty, even going so far as to Sacrifice His Own Son for this sick and unnecessary Cosmic Game that He had rigged before even the first piece was set in motion. And yet, He is a God of Love. A God of Love would be incapable in Its very Nature of causing intentional harm to the billions of Its creations over thousands of years.
This argument alone was enough to convince me that the God of Judeo-Christian-Islamic traditions does not exist!

If the God of the bible exists, He is inherently evil. Why? Because He intentionally introduced Evil into His creation, condoned it, and even allowed the first Evil Being to be one of His counselors in Heaven. (Read Job). The inescapable conclusion is that God, as purported in the bible, is a fantasy. His very existence is a conundrum that is irreconcilable. God can not lie, and yet the bible says He did. Over and over. To everyone.

My take on Firearm restriction laws...


Bloomburg and many other anti-gun enthusiasts are really out strutting their stuff these days, like vultures in a grave yard. They're trying hard to get sentiment on their side before the furor, or at least the uncomfortable feelings we have die away.
But you have to ask yourself why? Why now? Why do they always do this after something horrible like this? Why aren't they including the Clackamas Mall shooting, too? By the way, at Clackamas, the shooter was thwarted, after shooting only one victim, by a legally armed US Citizen who took aim at him. When he saw this, the shooter killed himself rather than his next-intended victim.

The truth of it is just this. To take away all of the legal guns in America, to disarm the law-abiding, wouldn't have helped at all at Columbine, or the Virginia shootings, probably not Sandy-Hook either. Or almost all of the other mass-shootings we've had in the US. Why? Because our Government can't control the influx of illegal firearms. The same Government that can't control the influx of illegal aliens. The same government that can't keep track of the firearms it is supposed to be 'selling' in a sting-operation that they inadvertently let get into the hands of real, live terrorists. The same Government that gives a license to own fully automatic weapons to 'collectors' for a fee, without anything more than a cursory check, anyway.
Another truth is that there's the little matter of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. They have added and removed minor amendments before, but never removed one that's considered a cornerstone of American Citizen's Rights, put there by the very first Constitutionally seated Congress and approved by the President. Which President you ask? George Washington. He and they thought it was that important that the American people be so armed as to guarantee our liberty from Tyranny. Remember that just eight years earlier they had finished a messy, expensive war against a Tyrant.

Here are two versions of the Amendment, both valid, BTW:
As passed by the Congress:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.[8]"

The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House and Senate, was prepared by scribe William Lambert and resides in the National Archives.
Notice that the 'as ratified' version, the one seen as law in all 50 States, uses a lower-case 'S' for the word 'state' where the as adopted by Congress uses a capital 'S.' The one adopted by Congress is for a Militia being necessary to maintain the freedom of a State. (A corporal Entity. the US, or any and/or all of it's incorporated States) Whereas the 'adopted' version with the lower-case 's' is referring to a state-of-being. Not the Corporate State, but rather the state-of-freedom which is the Right of All Men as stated in the preamble of the Constitution itself.
Here is the pertinent sentence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Now my question is this: How can we guarantee our Rights without means to stand up to our very Government? We have the Right to dissolve our very Government and start it over if we so choose. How are we going to exercise that right if we give guns to the Government along with all of the authority to use them when, where, and how they please with absolutely no recourse? How will they actually be answerable to us? The American people are unique in the World in that we do have these particular rights and responsibilities to preserve our freedom.

Now a lot of Americans are more than willing to sell off their Rights in exchange for so-called 'Security.' But are you really secure? As long as you don't step out of line? As long as you don't get a cop's attention? As long as you don't have to face a Judge who lusts after your possessions?
As long as Congress and the President don't want everything you have?
We've already given up a whole lot of Rights in this Country, the Right to own property, the Right to travel freely, the Right to representation without undue taxation, the Right to vote in our very own President. The Rights to be allowed to live our lives and pursue happiness, justice and freedom?

Now if we do allow them to take away our firearms, to repeal the 2nd Amendment, what's to stop them from from repealing the first Amendment? The third or fourth? or all of them? What's to stop them from repealing the whole Constitution?
After all, it was written over two hundred years ago, right? It MUST be outmoded. Surely it doesn't, or shouldn't, have a place in our Post-Modern World?
Why don't you ask that when you go see a group of Foreign Nationals swearing their Oath as US Citizens? Why don't you go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. and ask all of the names etched there? How about a VA Hospital? How about going and asking any Marine or Soldier serving at the pointy end of our Diplomacy? Go over and ask the Bosnians what they think of us?
No, we should NEVER take ANY portion of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights away. Should never demean them.

If you want to do something about gun crime, then make Congress actually ENFORCE Laws they had passed before this feeding frenzy first started. Let's take out all of the obfuscation. Let's take it away from the Politicians and for once, make them follow our lead! That's what they're supposed to be doing anyway! It's time that the US got back to reality. It's time to realize we can't afford to be diverted by little internal arguments that were unnatural and promulgated by the Government in the first place to keep us from noticing their attempted grab at the power that belongs rightfully in the hands of American voters.

That's my take on it.

What is God, after all?

God is Omniscient 

  Definition:
 The attribute of God by which God perfectly and eternally knows all things which can be known, past, present, and future. God knows how best to attain His desired ends.
  Meaning: This, like omnipresence, demonstrates that man cannot hide from God because God knows all things. He knows the number of hairs on each head, He knows the heart and thoughts of every man. Just because no man is around to see us do wrong doesn't mean nobody saw it happen - God did. The proverbial tree falling in the forest that doesn't make a sound because no man was there to see it or know about it falling at that time, God sees and knows. Our intentions in the things we do are known to God. We need to be sure that our attitudes are congruent with our actions because God knows when we are doing things for the wrong reasons or motives.
  Scripture Support:
 Psalm 147:4,5 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
 Acts 15:18 Known to God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
 Psalm 33:13 The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand. Conclusion:
 God knows everything that has happened and everything that will happen. He knows when we do things for the wrong reasons and when we do things for the right reasons. All things we do should be to serve Him and bring glory to Him.  “Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure’” (Isaiah 46:9–10). Yet this passage shows that declaring the end from the beginning is not just a function of “seeing” what is “destined” to happen. Continuing in Isaiah, we read that God acts and intervenes in history to accomplish His ends, “calling a bird of prey from the east, the man who executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it” (v. 11).

  My Comment:
 (God knew what he planned to do before he did it. Before he ever created anything, he already had the 'plan of salvation' in mind. To be a Christian, one must accept this as true, It is written in his infallable word. So then he knew that Lucifer was going to be flawed and fall before he ever created him. This leads us inevitably to the realisation that God created Lucifer perfectly flawed for the specific purpose that he would fall and bring sin into the Universe. How else could he prove to the Universe, to all of his creation that his peace, his vision of harmony, is perfect? Satan was created as catalyst. This also includes all of the 'fallen' angels. God created them knowing that they would fall.) 

 God is Omnipotent

 Definition: The attribute of God which describes his ability to do whatever He wills. God's will is limited by His nature, and He therefore cannot do anything contrary to His nature as God, such as to ignore sin, to sin, or to do something absurd or self-contradictory. God is not controlled by His power, but has complete control over it; otherwise He would not be a free being. To a certain extent, He has voluntarily limited Himself by the free will of His rational creatures.
  Meaning: This means that if God says something will happen.   He has the power to make sure that it will happen.  Therefore, when He promises eternal life to those who believe in Christ, He has the power to grant it.   Just as He cannon sin, He has the power to forgive those who do.
  Scripture Support:
 Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
 Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
 Job 42:2 I know that thou canst do everything, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
 Jeremiah 32:17,27 Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
 Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
 Revelation 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
  Conclusion: God is omnipotent! There is even a verse that, in the King James Version and New King James Version, uses this very word: “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Revelation 19:6)

 My Comment:
 (So, according to the Bible, God is all-powerful. He can do or create anything in his perfection. So, either God created Lucifer with his flaw on purpose, or he isn't Omnipotent. It is also interesting to note that he gave dominion of this world to Satan. In a very real sense, Satan still is God's minion.)

God is Omnipresent 
 Definition:
The attribute of God by which He fills the universe in all its parts and is present everywhere at once. Not a part, but the whole of God is present in every place. This is true of all three members of the Trinity. They are so closely related that where one is the others can be said to be, also.
Meaning:
Therefore, when man is sinning God is there. If a child is doing something a parent has told him not to do, God is there. There is no place man can go to hide from God.
  Scripture Support:
 Psalm 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Jeremiah 23:23,24 Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.
Ephesians 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Psalm 113:5 Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high.
 Psalm 123:1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
 I Kings 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
 Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
 I Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.
 Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Romans 10:6,7 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? Or, Who shall descend into the deep?
 Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
  Conclusion:
 There is no place to go where God is not already there. Ask yourself: is there any physical location in this universe where we can hide from the presence of God? The answer, according to Scripture, is a resounding “No!” In fact, King David posed this question directly, asking: “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell [the grave], behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me” (Psalm 139:7–10).

 My Comment:
  (No creature, great or small. No man, nor angel can be out of God's presence. Including fallen angels. God observes and directs the flow of events on this Earth. So even though he has given 'dominion' to Satan, God is in charge. In fact, no angel [including Satan and all of his fallen angels] is capable of acting against the will of God. Actually, if this is all considered in the 'Plan-of-Salvation,' that should be 'No Creature.' If God is perfect, his Plan is Perfection itself and all of the 'War in Heaven,' and it's aftermath here on Earth, is a part of God's Plan.) 

 God is Immutable 
 Definition:
 The perfection of God by which He is devoid of all change in essence, attributes, consciousness, will, and promises. No change is possible in God, because all change must be to better or worse, and God is absolute perfection. No cause for change in God exists, either in Himself or outside of Him.
  Meaning:
 Perfection means perfection. There is no reason for God to change because there is no change that would make Him better. However, man should be striving to be found complete and perfect in God's eyes.
 Scripture Support:
 Psalm 102:27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
 James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
 Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
 Hebrews 6:17, 18 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. Conclusion:
 There is no reason for God to change. When something is perfect it is best to leave it alone and avoid causing it to lose it's perfection.
 
My Comment:
  (God is perfection. So God can only create perfectly.When God decided to create Evil, then he created a perfect Evil, a counterpart to himself, being that he is billed as Good-Perfected. This leades to the question, is Lucifer-Satan then another manifestation of God himself? Perhaps his 'bad' side? We are taught, “Moderation in all things.” We tend to think of this as don't drink too much, do eat too many sweets, too much red meat is bad for you, but the phrase is “... in all things.” Paul says, “And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown (1 Corinthians 9:25).” There are arguments as to exactly what Paul meant in saying, “temperate...” But it's fairly obvious that he's talking about maintaining a balance in life. So perfection is perfectly balanced. Good perfectly balanced by Evil, Sweet perfectly balanced by Bitter... etc. So God as perfection is that god is the 'balance-point' that all other things are measured against. When in Genesis, god saw that, “It was good,” would logically mean that he saw that , “It was balanced, perfectly.” We know that the Earth, in order to survive, must maintain a balance. That animal life, must keep a balance or species tend to go extinct. The more species who go extinct, the more Nature has to try to balance the others until such point that the balance-point is tipped and all of it comes crashing down and there is no animal-life left on Earth, including Human Beings.) 


God Is Truth 
 Definition:
Truth is the interrelated consistency of statements and their correspondence with the facts of reality and the facts themselves. It suggests an integration of character, and adherence of virtue, a kind of reliability, which includes and goes beyond the literal meaning to include those aspects of personal behavior which seem to be implied by the love of truth. The concept of truth is derived from the character of God, and is the exact opposite of the concept of lying. "It is impossible for God to lie."
  Meaning:
 Since it is impossible for God to lie we know that everything He says about what will happen will actually take place. If we are to become perfect we need to be known as individuals who tell the truth, like God. That means when we promise something we need to keep that promise or not make it in the first place. We need to try to place ourselves in situations where we don't feel the need to lie to defend either ourselves or our behavior.
  Scripture Support:
 Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
 John 17:2, 3 As thou has given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
 Psalm 19:9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
 Psalm 33:4 For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.
 Psalm 57:10 For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.
 John 8:31, 32 If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

 II Thessalonians 2:10-13 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.
  Conclusion:
 Whatever God says He will do, He will do. Therefore, when He says those who believe in Jesus shall have eternal life, you can rest assured that will take place. Just as sure is His providing a way out of temptation, protection from the flaming arrows of the enemy, and Satan's eventual demise by being thrown into the Lake of Fire forever.

  My Conclusion: (What is Truth? God, obviously, but then what is the truth about God? Is God a being? If so, where did he come from? A Race of Beings? Or is it more Earthly than that, it just could be that God is nothing more than an ancient People's attempts at explaining the Natural Balance through creation of a Supreme Being that interposes Order on a perceived to be disordered world. The whole nexus of both Evolution and Creation is Natural Balance. One from the standpoint of atttempts to understand the history and artifacts of life on Earth as discovered, and the other an attempt to explain the same through means of a Supernatural, Supreme Man/Being. One view's foundations are no older than Galileo and DaVinci, the other has it's origins in the emergence of Man to self-awareness. Mankind has always had a need to explore, to understand, to explain to satisfaction, all the world around him. He has a need to order things. Everything has it's place and for millenia that place was extra-determined by God(s) for lack of any other sufficient determination, but the fact that Man was able to discover Evolutionary Theory and then to advance down that line of thought, shows that we are still evolving from what we were when we emerged as a separate species to what we will be. God has his/her/it's/their place in our history, does it have a place in our future?)

Hari Seldon

I think and have thought since I was 12, that all emotion, all art, all of love can be reduced to Chemistry and Mathematical formulae. We are attracted to potential mates based on visual comparison of the form to the Divine Integer. Once a potential mate has been selected visually, we further winnow the choices down by smelling pheremones. I have actually become aware of rejecting possible mates because they just didn't 'smell' right to me. It's basically the same as the smell of your home. Others walk in the door and notice 'odors,' good or bad. You walk into your own home and unless something has changed, rather than consciously 'smelling,' you feel relaxed, comforted, safe, because it smells like you. We all smell our children. Underneath it all, we are making sure they give off our own particular 'family' scent. Other people's children don't. Some, like their parents, smell offensive to you, others are compatible. You know that person that you just instinctively know will never be your friend? Yep, pheremonal imbalance to you. And we think we are so far above the other Apes. How about music? Art? They both follow the fibonacci spiral and the divine integer. In fact, everything in our lives can only be pleasing if they fit into a set of rules we aren't even aware that we set. When I read Aasimov's Foundation Trilogy, at 11, I was completely taken by Hari Seldon and the whole idea of Psychohistory. Like Aasimov, I think that the whole of Human existence can be set in Mathematical form and seen/predicted; beginning, middle and end - from individuals, to Societies, to the entire Race's History and Future. At some point, anyway. Of course I loved the whole mathematical puzzles he put into all of his works. The Foundation trilogy and the double-helix quandary had me at my desk with slide-rule and papers for months, off and on, lol.

My First (for real) Building Search

jul 20, '06 11:57 pm for everyone Back about, well, more than a few years ago! My best friend at the time, "Rod", and I had graduated Peace Officer Training, (or for you plebescites out there, Police Academy) and had gone to work at the same small Department. After proper training with a Field-Training Officer, we'd been assigned as partners to patrol duty. As I said, this was a small Dept. and a small town, about 35, or 40 miles down a backroad from Ft. Worth, Tx. The only excitement we usually had was drunks coming north from Lake 'Whatnot' on the weekends, and of course, the ubiquitous speeders; the mayor's kin, who thought they could get away with anything; and the local "characters". One night, we were bored, riding around, pretending there was an outbreak of "Alien Ninjas landing in our area",( Those of you who have patrolled late night in rural areas know the type of boredom I'm talking about.) we got an alarm at the High-School Gym. Some of you may know how important football is in small-town Texas, and in this gym was all of the football equipment and training gear this town owned, including some really expensive weight training stuff. Well the alarm was for an open door at the boy's locker room, which enters directly into the weight-training room of the gym. Needless to say "Rod" and I were very keyed up! We ran 'code' (85mph[the fastest our worn-out old patrol car would do] with lights and siren going full-tilt) all the way to the school, ( a good 6 blocks) screeched up to the open door, and did the classic one-two entrance into dark unknown buildings, just we'd been taught. We cleared the weight-room, then turned left into the bathroom, cleared it, and continued on into the shower area. The shower stalls were set five individual open-front stalls down each side of this long, narrow, dark room. "Rod" and I were leapfrogging each other,(this is a method whereby each officer goes through a view restriction area, such as a doorway, then covers the other officer as he/she goes through the next one), weapons free, and interlocked with our flashlights, so that wherever you pointed your flashlight, there your weapon would be aimed also. You cops out there know the technique well. Anyway, there we were leapfrogging in the dark. In the last room to check, the shower room, tension level and adrenaline meter at "Full-throttle High". We got to the last two stalls, sweating, tense, nervous. I cleared the one to the left, then "Rod" leaped around the corner to the one on the right, and "BLAM!,BLAM!" I crouched, and turned to cover "Rod". He said he'd seen a man dressed in dark clothing, pointing a gun at him! I turned the corner, slowly, peaking around it, and found a full-length mirror, which had been shot-to-death in it's prime! I was so relieved that was all it was! Of course he had to buy a new mirror, and justify the shots fired. and be called "Barney Fife" for a while. As a matter of fact, the rest of the time he and I were partnered, they called us "Andy and Barney". Ah the old times! ©F.Pierce 7/21/06
